Once a Month Blogging

It's possible a few of these pictures have shown up on the blog already....

Before I get going on the pictures I wanted to record a few things that have happened this week.  1.)  We had the primary talent show this week.  It's always nice to have that over with (putting on a talent show, even for a medium sized primary, is still a bit stressful).  Brady and Kody played piano.  Carson was going to dribble a basketball, then backed out at the last minute.  Parker was GOING to demonstrate his perfect pitch using handbells.  He didn't want to do it, but I talked him into it, promising him a box of fruit snacks if he would do it.  When it was his turn he excitedly jumped on stage and went up to the mic and said "I'm Parker Wirig and my talent is DJ Dancing", then he turned to me and said "tricked you mom".  He went out to the middle of the stage and waited.  I asked if he wanted music and he said "yes.  DJ dance music".  So i had to rush off stage and find some music for him really quick.  He did something loosely resembling breakdancing for 30 seconds or so and it was over.  The MC asked if he was going to also do the bells...Parker went to the microphone and said "i don't do double talents.  My name is Parker Wirig and i just DID DJ Dancing".  Stinker.

The second thing I thought I should record is Kody's head injury tonight.  He and Parker were in the family room rough housing.  I told them 10 times to knock it off "someone is going to get hurt".  I went into the kitchen to continue to work on dinner when we heard a THUD and a scream.  Parker had pushed Kody, and Kody went right into my new end table (which we knew when we put it by the end of the couch that it was going to attract heads.  I may need to move it to prevent further injuries).  Anyway....i hoped it was just a bonk, but as I was hugging Kody i felt my hand get sticky and wet and when I pulled it away it was covered with blood.  We rand to the kitchen and got a rag and we just sat and held it on there for a while (i was too scared to look....i didn't want to know).  I kept checking the towel to see how much blood it was producing, and while it felt like a lot of blood, it kept getting to be less and less...so i figured it was at least clotting.  Dustin was on his way home so we just sat and he cried a bit until he eventually calmed down.  Dustin didn't get a super good look at it, but we think it's *probably* going to be ok?  We'll see how things go tonight.

Ok, on with the iPhone picture dump.

Kody said it feels like summer when he sits here.

Kody tried telling me that parker scratched him.

oooh...this was yummy.  Thai chicken noodle soup (with lime and cilantro.) mmm...i'm pasting the recipe below so I have it archived...but you can check out the link if you like.  The blog (thesisterscafe.com) has lots of yummy recipes!

Thai Coconut Lime Soup
Submitted by Mindy ~ The Sisters Cafe

1 can coconut milk
5 cans (~ 7 1/2 cups) chicken stock or broth (I’ve used bouillon with good results, too)
3 large carrots, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced into long strips
1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into long strips
1 whole rotisserie chicken, shredded
1/4-1/2 cup lime juice (2-3 medium limes juiced) – to taste
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon thai green curry paste (more to taste)
1/2 teaspoon yellow curry powder (again more if you like Curry, but no more than 1 tsp)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1-6 ounce package chow mein noodles
Large bunch cilantro, chopped
4-5 green onions, chopped
*If you want it to be spicier, you could add some cayenne pepper to taste
In large pot, add chicken stock and coconut milk. Bring to light boil, then add carrots and bell peppers. Cook on light boil for 5 minutes on medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium. Add shredded chicken, lime juice, soy sauce, green curry paste, curry, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.  Cook for 5 minutes. Carrots should not be too soft, they should have a little bit of crunch left.  Reduce heat to low and add noodles. Cover with lid and let the noodles absorb liquid. Once the noodles are al dente (about 5 minutes or so), the soup is done! Add your green onions and fresh cilantro 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Audrey standing again.  She wants to walk so bad...and thinks she can...but she can't.  so she just falls.  and bonks her head a bunch.

pre-picture-picture-day-picture.

Brady.  I used a wide angle lens here, so he looks a little distorted, but still adorable.

do you ever get your kitchen super clean and think "i'm going to take a picture of it because it might not happen again"....

or is your bedroom ever so messy you think "i'm going to take a picture of it, because I hope it never happens again".  Also we need a new mattress.  We know.

So there you have it.  Oh, also I just got an email from the school auction.  I put a bunch of bids on a bunch of things...i was the first bidder and i just thought "i'll just get things going....".  Ends up i was the ONLY bidder, and I won EVERYTHING.  now i need to pay.

Nate and I won a trip to WY to go snow-mobiling at a raffle like that! BTW, I had no idea what to make for dinner with some leftover chicken, so I made your soup. So good! Thanks
